Bryn Mawr, Where Chardonnay Reigns (Part 2)

By Preston Hunt November 14th, 2023

"The views!! The best views we had the entire trip. Bryn Mawr hangs on the edge of a mountain that overlooks the entire valley, and David Lauer is king of that mountain and was our host for this short but significant stop.

David is the VP of Sales and Marketing and son of owners, Jon and Kathy, who purchased the property in 2009. We met last year when he visited Nashville to show his wines around town. That was my first time tasting the wines, but definitely not my last. Following that meeting I put all 3 of the wines available to me on the shelf. David sold me on the wines, the story, and the mentality of Bryn Mawr. When we decided to go to the Willamette Valley and started planning, I knew I had to make it by Bryn Mawr. David was a fantastic host, but we barely caught each other. He was headed out of the state for a wine dinner and we had a full day booked with only about an hour and a half to spare. But we put it to good use."

20 Of The Coolest And Most Delicious Wines For Your Thanksgiving Dinner

By Forbes November 2023

"Bryn Mawr Vineyards Tempranillo, Oregon, 2019: A very cool wine from a pinot noir focused appellation. This is one of the few, if only, Willamette Valley wineries that grows Tempranillo as well as Dolcetto at their estate. This one shows off with ripe black cherry notes, a hint of spice and a marvelously silky palate – thanks to a year of bottle aging before release. It’s only 12% alcohol so go ahead and give the aunties another glass or two."

A Quick Guide to Slow Wine

By Oregon Wine Press September 2023

"When Jon and Kathy Lauer acquired Bryn Mawr Vineyards, they engaged Rachel Rose as winemaker and vineyard director. Rose crafts wines that highlight the aromatics produced by from the winds through the Van Duzer Corridor. Her 2019 Estate Pinot Noir is intensely aromatic with a retronasally perfumed palate and smooth tannins."

Enjoy a Tour and Lunch in the Vineyard

By Eugene Magazine August 2023

"We visited Bryn Mawr Vineyards to experience a new in-depth tour and lunch at the winery. It’s a beautiful site, perched at 870 feet on the upper crest of the acclaimed Eola-Amity Hills — an area known for its afternoon winds. Bryn Mawr is Welsh for “high hill,” and the vineyard is nestled atop one of the steepest slopes in the Willamette Valley along a windy corridor (they don’t host weddings because there’s too much at stake when the wind picks up — they tried it once and learned their lesson!) The 40-acre LIVE-certified estate enjoys rocky volcanic soils which anchor the vines on their steep vineyard. They have two guesthouses on the property where visitors can get an immersive experience. And, David Lauer, son of owners Jon and Kathy Lauer, recently introduced a new hospitality experience at the winery.

The Exploration Tasting is personally led by David and begins with a tour of the winery, where winemaker Rachel Rose helms Bryn Mawr’s innovative program. David led our small group on a hike of the vineyard for a discussion of Bryn Mawr’s sustainable vineyard practices, like their no-till approach, their partnership with Philomath-based nursery Buzz Seeds to source organic cover crops that naturally suppress noxious weeds, under-vine composting, and more. We had some really informative and picturesque tastings under the trees among the vines, which culminated in a tasting led by David along with a beautiful charcuterie plate in the winery’s new private tasting room."

By @willamettevalleywine August 2023

"Did someone say best views in the Willamette Valley? You’ll have to go check it out for yourself! Bryn Mawr takes so much pride in their neighborhood, farming practices, and winemaking team & the best way to experience a tasting at @brynmawrvineyards (in my opinion) is their explorative tasting with David."

Taste the Rainbow at this year’s queer wine fest

By Oregon Wine Press May 2023

"Diverse populations by nature cultivate more creativity and innovation. Owner/winemaker of Remy Wines, Remy Drabkin, is also founder of Queer Wine Fest, McMinnville’s mayor and Wine Country Pride co-founder. She recognizes the importance of promoting a more inclusive community. Last year, Drabkin created Queer Wine Fest to bring together (and celebrate) LGBTQ+ winery owners, winemakers and winegrowers.

David Lauer, vice president of sales and marketing at Bryn Mawr Vineyards, located in the Eola-Amity Hills, says, “It’s no surprise something as ever-shifting, dynamic and exciting as wine has become a magnet for this eclectic gathering of wonderful queer producers.” He continues, “It’s a phenomenal occasion to create and strengthen our community, something so central and dear to the LGBTQ+ experience.”
