A Weighty Subject

By Oregon Wine Press October 1st, 2025

"In the Willamette Valley, the grape’s path has been more challenging. Rachel Rose, winemaker and vineyard manager at Bryn Mawr Vineyards, remembers how the vines refused to ripen fruit in 2010. Yet, she and owner Jon Lauer persisted. “The idea of crafting a bold wine that was wildly different from Pinot Noir intrigued me… we were determined not to give up on it.”

That resolve continues in the cellar, where the Tempranillo, made in the tradition of Spain’s Gran Reserva, spends more than three years in barrel before bottling. The result, Rose shares, is a wine with length, complexity and substantial structure, perfect with hearty fare. “A dark and reduced oxtail braise is one of my favorite decadent winter meals."

In need of an escape? Consider these unexpected autumn travel destinations

By Lindsay Cohn, Wallpaper.com September 29th, 2025

"Autumn brings with it colourful foliage sure, but it also entails back-to-school, chillier temperatures and shorter days. And while you might feel that this time of year signals the end of holiday fun, think again: autumn is one of the best times of the year to travel. Wine country comes alive as harvest begins."

September 2025 Cellar Selects: A Union of Unique Whites

By Oregon Wine Press September 1st, 2025

"Bryn Mawr Vineyards 2024 Estate Pinot Blanc

Eola-Amity Hills Meadow flowers, green apple and snow leopard melon lead the nose, accented by candied apple and a delicate nuttiness. Juicy gushes of peach, cotton candy grapes and starfruit are supported by sunquat and a touch of spearmint. Restrained bitterness intersects the sweetness, uplifting the lengthy ending."

What Has Gone Into the Ground Has Shaped the Northwest’s Wine

By Audrey Van Buskirk, Willamette Weekly July 4th, 2025

"Marine sediment, volcanic basalt, Missoula flood sediment? Unless you’re an expert, you probably won’t be able to tell, but just thinking about—and getting a taste of—50 million years of geology and climate change makes drinking local wines seem educational as well as delicious.

In Welsh, Bryn Mawr means big hill, and that’s certainly where these vineyards are, with a lovely indoor/outdoor tasting room blessed with a view from Mount Jefferson to Lincoln City. For over 15 years, (Rachel) Rose has crafted award-winning wines here, with commanding views and a steep pitch that doesn’t immediately seem made for farming of any kind. But Rose relishes the natural challenges and has a deep understanding of the geology of this area over the millennia. “It’s wild to work with these forces that happened 15 to 18 million years ago,” she says. "

ABC – Anything But Chardonnay? Not Any More!

By Paul Gregutt, Paul Gregutt's Northwest Wine Guide May 1st, 2025

Veteran wine reviewer Paul Gregutt offers a look into the fresh takes of the Burgundian-inspired wines from select PNW producers, among which is our very own Bryn Mawr Vineyards.

"If you have given up on Chardonnay you are missing out on what, in the right hands, can be the greatest white wine in the Pacific Northwest. Time to jump back in!"

Bryn Mawr 2022 Estate Chardonnay - 93/100 Tart, tangy, loaded with bright citrus and wonderfully full-bodied despite its low alcohol, this elegant wine saw 15% new French oak for 16 months. It’s definitely an acid-lovers’ wine, and count me in when that acidity makes for such a lively, concentrated and delicious Chardonnay. Meyer lemon, fresh cut pineapple and a twist of lime; all good.

Bubbling Up: U.S. Vintners Find Success in Fizz as Consumers Look Beyond the Expected

By Kathleen Wilcox, Wine Industry Advisor March 17th, 2025

"In the U.S., sales of sparkling wine (made in both the traditional Champagne and the Italian method) are selling far more briskly than their still counterparts. And there are a number of other benefits that are making an ever-increasing number of producers get into the fizz game.

David Lauer, who manages sales at Bryn Mawr Vineyards in Salem, Ore., says the winery’s trajectory in sparkling wine reflects the state’s broader patterns — and, perhaps, its future."

The 25 Best Sparkling Wines for 2024 (That Aren’t Champagne or Prosecco)

By Vinepair December 18, 2024

"There’s a big world out there with a wide range of sparkling wine to be had outside of the two powerhouse regions of France and Italy. A lot of amazing, even life- changing, bubbles from Oregon and Maryland to Italy and Spain. We were so excited to taste through hundreds of bottles of bubbly, and as we did, one thing became very clear: The U.S. is not playing when it comes to this category.

At the western crest of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA near Salem, Ore., lies Bryn Mawr Vineyards, Welsh for high hill. With influence from the Pacific Ocean and an elevation as high as 900 feet above sea level, it’s definitely one of the highest vineyard sites in the region. A great spot for Pinot Noir. Especially a sparkling Pinot Noir! This is Bryn Mawr’s Pinot Noir-based American Sparkler they brought on board in 2018 and we are so glad they did. It has a savory nose with hints of pear and fennel. The palate is fabulously quenching with calm but present bubbles."
