Winter Wines from Oregon to Warm Your Soul
By Great Northwest Wines February 2022
"Bryn Mawr Vineyards 2016 Tempranillo, Eola-Amity Hills - Perched on the upper crest of the acclaimed Eola-Amity Hills, Bryn Mawr’s 40-acre LIVE-certified estate is battered by powerful winds sweeping through the Van Duzer Corridor from the Pacific Coast. Their vines are anchored into rocky volcanic soils on the steep vineyard and produce powerful characteristics across their entire portfolio. The whites and pinks are nervy, acid-driven and refreshingly crisp. The reds are bold and edgy, as is their Tempranillo. Dark violet in color, they sport a nose that is rich and lifted with sweet vanilla bean and cocoa butter st the outset. After a twirl, the dried cherry, sweet fig and pepper notes come jumping out to greet you. The palate is smooth and complete. Concentrated fruit and earthy cocoa nibs emerge on the midpalate, while the tannins are perfectly balanced and satisfying all the way to the end. Rachel Rose is both the winemaker and vineyard director for Bryn Mawr, giving her complete control from grape to glass. Under her leadership, they’re crafting wines of great complexity and tension and have continually elevated their production and quality recently. A common adage among the team is “high hill, high risk, high reward,” and that tenacious spirit is reflected in all that they do."
WE Podcast: Is Wine Art?
By Wine Enthusiast May 2021
"In this episode, we go a little deep and talk about a somewhat philosophical question. Is wine art? From field to glass, the creative and chemical aspects of it all, we discuss the reality of making wine, and if what’s in the bottle can truly be considered art."
Why Packaging is Wine's New Sustainability Frontier
By Liquor.com May 2021
"In 2012, Rose switched to eco-glass for half of Bryn Mawr’s 6,500-case run of wines—a decision that allows the winery to ship 56 cases per truckload as opposed to the 42 cases that fit using ultra-premium bottles. “I started thinking about how that would reduce the number of delivery trips, which would ultimately reduce the wear and tear on the roads, and the tires, which would need to be replaced less and less often,” says Rose. “It sounds crazy, and it’s unquantifiable, but once you let your imagination go, you realize that even chipping away at some of these issues can make a big difference.”
Sheer Pleasure
By Oregon Wine Press May 2021
"The difficult we do right away; the impossible takes a little longer." For Jon and Kathy Lauer, owners of Byrn Mawr Vineyards, this adage feels familiar.
The couple’s foray into wine started in 2009, after purchasing 20 acres in the Eola-Amity Hills area, northwest of Salem. It was a steep, challenging site, and the Lauer's were new to it all.
Although inexperienced, the two attorneys from San Diego were enthusiastic about their new retirement venture. They turned the existing house into living quarters on the main floor and built a winery/tasting room in the basement. The couple then hired young Rachel Rose, a novice winemaker. A risky decision at the time, but a great one in the end: Rose remains the foundation of the winery’s success.
Standout Rieslings from the Willamette Valley
By Forbes April 2021
"Bryn Mawr Vineyards 2018 Estate Riesling - Just 150 cases of this elegant Riesling were produced from a rocky, windy slope in Bryn Mawr’s Eola-Amity Hills vineyard. Due to a high natural acidity that was balanced out with residual sugar, the 2018 vintage is a slightly sweeter style than previous vintages. Aromas of orange blossom and honey lead into a midpalate with notable salinity."

Foraging Tours Let Travelers Savor a Destination's Flavor
By The Washington Post April 2022
"If you want to get a real taste of the place you’re visiting, don’t make a reservation at the hippest-looking locavore restaurant you find on Instagram. Book a tour with a local forager instead.
Foraging is a practice essentially as old as humanity itself — and has long been popular with chefs, who are always looking for new flavors to bring to guests. But interest in it increased during the pandemic as people turned to outdoor activities, took up new hobbies and tried to mix up their kitchen routines to ensure their home cooking stayed interesting."
