Vineyards

Bryn Mawr Vineyards is located in the Eola Hills in the central part of the Willamette Valley in Oregon. We are 11 miles northwest of the city of Salem and approximately sixty miles south of Portland. Our vineyard is located high above the valley floor which makes our vineyards and winery one of the few in the region with views of both the Coastal Mountain range to the West and the Cascade Mountains to the East.

The soils of Bryn Mawr are volcanic in origin and, like others in the Eola-Amity Hills, tend to be shallower than other areas in the Willamette Valley. The afternoon breezes that come from the Van Duzer Pass cools our grapes and preserve their natural acidity. This helps create bright, fresh wines that also reflect the structure and depth of our terroir.

On our 20 acre plot we have planted 4.5 acres of grapes in three blocks. The “Old Block” vineyard was planted in 1994 and 1995. It has a southeast slope and contains Tempranillo and Chardonnay grapes in addition to Pinot Noir. Our second and third blocks were planted in 2002 with southeast and south slopes. The grapes are primarily Pinot Noir–a field blend of the Dijon clones 113, 114, 115 and 777. We intend to plant an additional 2 to 3 acres in the spring of 2010.
