Our People

Jon Lauer, Owner & WinemakerJon Lauer, Owner and Wine Grape Grower

After graduating from the University of Michigan Law School in 1981, Jon practiced corporate law for the next 20 years. His real love during that time, though, was wine and grape growing. He continued his education by taking classes at the University of California at Davis and for a number of years has grown wine grapes in San Diego, California. Jon is only too happy to leave his legal career behind and focus entirely on the continued growth and success of Bryn Mawr Vineyards.

Kathy has long shared Jon’s passion for wine. She is also a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School (although much more recently than Jon). Kathy continues to practice law in San Diego, California. An esteemed gourmet cook, she excels at creating the perfect match between wine and food. Kathy and Jon have traveled extensively to wine regions of the world, meeting wine producers in France and Germany as well as exploring the wine regions of Italy and Austria.

Rachel Rose, Consulting WinemakerRachel Rose, Consulting Winemaker

Rachel brings exceptional credentials to the Bryn Mawr operation. After graduating with a B.S. in Molecular Cellular and Developmental Biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz, she continued her education at the University of Adelaide in South Australia, where she received her M.S. in Oenology. She also received a Postgraduate Diploma in viticulture from the University of Adelaide. Rachel has extensive experience as a consultant to a number of wineries in the United States and Australia. As she says, “I love to think about wine, drink wine, cook with wine, share wine with fellow epicureans and continually seek to convert the non-believers. In my idle hours I can be found devouring wine-related literature, perusing wine aisles for extended periods of time and intently scrutinizing dirt wherever I go.”

Rachel’s passion and enthusiasm for wine and her work are contagious. Be sure to say Hi when you visit the tasting room!
